Powell Trip

Jared and I are fortunate enough to have friends whose grandparents own a share on a house boat in Lake Powell. Every so once and a while, we get the opportunity to join them for a week in the most amazing place ever.

Bear with me I have tons of pictures and I have this thing against slide shows because it bugs me to have to wait for the pictures to show.

Jared's brother Nate dug a 5' deep hole so I decided to jump in and capture the moment. It was funny cause once I was in, I couldn't get out...I needed a little assistance. After a big storm we actually found a couple of lizard's hanging out in there.

Isn't the landscape behind the house boat amazing?!?! This is what we woke up to every morning...bliss.
My tanning rock...perfect spot to just lay and relax (side note, my goal was to not burn this trip and I successfully made it 7 whole days without a burn! Victory!)

I swear Jared is good at everything he does. He's usually doing flips with the rest of them but decided since we don't have insurance, it's not really the best idea.

Sweet shot of Jared skiing. I haven't tried skiing yet.

This is actually our friend Sam and Jared shot this picture. I thought it was cool. He almost landed one of these.
This is me pretending I'm good at wake boarding. Walt actually said that I got higher air than this one but we didn't have the camera on the boat so this is the next best picture.

And here's Amy Kate showing us how it's really done. She gets some serious air! I'm not that brave yet.

On one of our "excursions" we found a ton of beach wood and decided to collect it to have a bonfire on the beach. This was the first night we did it. Walt's on the right dancing with the torch they lit it with. Funny part was they did this three more times and the wood just wouldn't lite.

So here's take two. This time they chopped up the wood into smaller pieces, made a line of gasoline from the water to the fire and then doused the fire in gasoline and lit the line. I could feel the shock wave all the way on the house boat. Needless to say, this one stayed lit.

One of the many tranquil nights we spent under the stars. I wish I could just live here!

I figured my anniversary gift this year was going to Lake Powell but on the night of our anniversary, Jared baked me my favorite cake (Rainbow Chip cake with Rainbow Chip frosting!) and everyone sang happy anniversary.

Jared, Nate, and I on our way to the sand dunes. Funny story. I actually have like 5 different versions of the picture before this one and Jared is not smiling in any one of them. Serves me right...I was doggin' on him for only taking pictures of landscapes instead of one's with people so he wouldn't smile...memories...

Views from either side of the canyon we weaved through to get to the dunes.

If you enlarge this picture you'll notice the tents in the cave. I imagine those hikers only have about 4 days left before their site is under water. Sweet spot though!

Hiking to the Dunes.

The group hiking up the dunes. I stayed below to take the pictures.

The hike up wouldn't have been complete without a screaming run down...

After the dunes we found some cliffs to jump from. I didn't brave this one...way too high for me. But we did find some smaller ones to jump from for us wimps.

I love this picture. I swear it belongs in a magazine. Jared was perched on the side of this cliff watching people jump from above and I thought it looked too awesome to pass up the picture opportunity.
